Canadian Railroads > 2018 Holiday Train Canadian Edition

Today I drove down to Finch ON and grabbed a few photos of Canadian Pacific's 2018 Canadian Edition, Holiday Train.  The temperature was a balmy 34 degrees F so the crowds were large both in Finch and Merrickville.

Photo 1:  CPR engine 2249 (featured on the cover of this month's Trains magazine) arriving in Finch, ON mile 77.4 on CP's Winchester sub..  Sixty years ago the train would have been crossing a diamond with the New York Central at this point.  

Photo 2:  CP 77 "Van Horne" carries the "markers" on this year's Holiday Train. Like the diamond and the NYC, the marker lamps are gone, too. The Van Horne was built for the CPR in 1927 but I think the trucks are newer.

Photo 5:  Westbound Holiday Train passes the eastbound train 142 near Chesterville ON.  I'm amazed that the Winchester still remains double track from Dorion (Montréal) to Smiths Falls. 
Photo 6:  The Holiday Train about to cross Clark Road just west of Mountain, ON mile 95.9 Winchester sub.

I was hoping to catch the train in Merrickville but the traffic, the crowds made it impossible to park and set up.  From my car I did see the train did stop on the bridge over the Rideau River for a few minutes so there should be some good photos out there.

Too bad we can't have something like this here. If it were sponsored and run by an individual railroad, wouldn't it be exempt from Delta Dick's draconian no charter Grinch policy's?

We DO have one here. CP runs two Holiday Trains. One in Canada and one in the US.

What in the world does AMTRAK have to do with this?    SHEESH!!!!

We do have something like this "here'"(I assume by "here" that you mean the United States).  As noted previously, CPR runs such a train in the US.  Additionally, CSX regularly runs a holiday train for kids along a former Clinchfield Railroad line.  Furthermore, as discussed in a recent thread, Bennet Levin has stepped up to the plate when Amtrak made a decision not to run a Marine Corps/Toys for Tots train in New York.

You are letting your obsession with Richard Anderson getting in the way of facts.

KCS operates a holiday train also.

Thanks for sharing. How are the lights, etc. powered? HEP from the loco or a generator in a car?

Incidentally, reportedly the U.S. version won't be lit while in transit.

A generator car.

And this is the second time that you have mentioned that the US version travels without lights, and it was disproven then as well!

Sorry, I did not see the lastest post to my inquiry on the Eastern Board last week. Up until that post folks said it would not be lit in transit but there was disagreement on who would make the decision, NS or the CP crew.  Perhaps there was some reverse psychology at work? <G>
