VIA train on ts way to Churchill
Author: LTCerny

CTV News reports that the VIA train to Churchill left Winnepeg today about an hour later than its 12:05pm schedule due to mechanicl problems, and that over 100 passengers had resevations to ride it, although only 12 were making the complete trip from Winnepeg to Churchill.  The schedule is for two trains each way each week, with departures from Winnepeg on Sunday and Tuesday, and departures from Churchill on Thursday and Saturday.

I wonder if it's on Streamliner's list of trains to ride? Considering he was so horrified by his experience on the Canadian, can you only imagine his reaction to the Hudson Bay?

Great holiday present for the long suffering people of Churchill.

Is Pullman service offered on the reestablished train from Winnepeg to Churchill?  I look forward to taking this trip again soon.  Thanks.

There likely would be a 10 duplex roomette, three double bedroom, one drawing room, three section Chateau sleeper or two on the train.

Chateau cars have only 8 roomettes FYI!

Train operates with ex-CP Budd coaches, diner, and the Chateau sleepers. Wish they would put a Park Car on year-round like Ocean (and not just seasonally or occasionally), just for moving around to have extra lounge space besides the diner, which doubles as anything it can at tmes!!! VIA can afford to put Park Cars on this route, but Skyline domes with grill and tables (in place of diner) would be a stretch since Amtrak needs all it can get for the Canadian. Definitely need to take this train now that the route is back in operation!

Yes, of course Chateau sleepers have 8 duplex roomettes. Thanks for the correction.

And if you Google "First train to Churchill" you will see that the train Sunday does have as non-Prestige Park Car AND nice diner with scenes from the Far North on the outside and a northern lights ceiling on the inside.  This was the CTV showing the train leaving Winnipeg.  Wish I had been on it as there is bound to be a big celebration at Churchill Tuesday morning upon arrival.

I wasn't aware that Amtrak was involved in equipment assignments for "The Canadian."  They have enough trouble keeping the trains running south of the 49th Parallel.  Sounds to me like they're biting off more than they can chew.

All VIA trains except the Canadian, former Skeena and Hudson Bay trains....DO run south of the 49th parallel. The only Amtrak involvement would be the equipment for the Maple Leaf and that one is well south of the 49th!

Now, apparently.  On some days there is no space available in the sleeping cars.  Unfortunately, the dining car is on the "take-away" schedule; not full, sit down service--available only in the summer time.   But that's been going on for some time.

Besides, polar bears, there's also the Northern Lights at this time of year.

Yes.  But jp1822 specifically mentioned "The Canadian."

Yup....just calling you out, as you as well as I know that jp1822 meant to say VIA in his original post!

There is so much misinformation dispensed here by participants of Trainorders that I make NO such assumptions.  A good policy that perhaps you, too, should adopt.
