The Ocean at Campbellton,NB -- Dec 80
Author: gcm

I was a passenger and had some time for a few shots on a cold day at Campbellton.

(1-2) Unfortunately the head end was in shadows but the Alcos still looked great.

(3-4) 6787 and 6859 were both ex-CN.

(5-7) Sleeper Chaleur Bay was built by P-S in 1954 as a 10 roomette - 5 bedroom car.
CN had six of these cars and from what I've read , they have all been scrapped.

Wonderful photos.  Thanks for posting them.

In photo 5, it looks like there's a car that's boxier-looking on the rear.  Do you remember if there was a steam car on the rear?

You certainly made the best of your limited time to take photos. That water tank in photo five certainly makes it a more interesting photo.

Yes, there was a CN marked steam generator car on the rear.

Good way to keep the rear cars warm on a long train?

Thanks for posting this and Campbellton is still a busy stop today for the Ocean.

(Well really not today but last June.....and I’m sure if I took the same pictures today it would look more like those above. It’s sunny and -6C or 21F)

I like before and after shots. Looks like the yard tracks need a little landscaping.

Yes...just cross over the VanHorne Bridge in the last photo....you’re in Quebec and on the way to Gaspe and that’s the route of a special bus connection VIA has arranged with the Ocean over the Holidays between Campbellton and Gaspe.

(Just too bad the Chaleu wasn’t still running!)
