MLW Monday
Author: hoggerdoug

Way back in March 1974 I was the headend brakeman on this train, took this shot at Beatton as we were getting ready to depart south to Fort St John and then to Chetwynd our home terminal. Engineer Ted Ryan has his mug out the cab window. Engine 608 is still PGE lettered. In those days freight crews operated north from Chetwynd  to Beatton, which at the time was mile 816.5 Fort St John subdivision. We would layover in the MoW ground camp and wait for our south bound connection from Fort Nelson handled by a crew based in Fort Nelson. The track was in reasonable condition with a good portion of 25 & 30 mile per hour speeds. Years later the Fort St John sub would terminate at Fort St John and the portion north from there became the Fort Nelson sub. Crews were eliminated in Fort Nelson and the freight crews were then based in Fort St John.

Very nice. Now that's a remote location!

If I recall, there was no road access, only by rail.
