Canadian Railroads > MLW Monday - CAD 2001Date: 12/10/18 18:13 MLW Monday - CAD 2001 Author: Mberry Once used by CAD (a repair shop in Montreal) as a switcher, this ex-CP RS-23 (originally CP 8024, now CAD 2001) is in very bad shape and has not been used for a number of years now. These photos are from Saturday afternoon and were shot over a barbed wire fence. According to a comment on a Facebook group where I posted one of these shots, the frame was damaged after an encounter with a cut of cars a couple of years back.
The third shot shows a testbed built on an LRC-3 frame. Michael Berry Date: 12/10/18 18:47 Re: MLW Monday - CAD 2001 Author: mcfflyer Wow. Pretty fascinating. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks, I did check the CTG but found nothing about the testbed hence my query. Back in the mid-90s Doug Smith and I visited the MMC and met with Roger Hogarth, the project manager of VIA's HEP program. While there we saw the cut-down LRC locomotive 6912. It was in the same primer grey as your photo of the testbed and looked very much like the testbed but without the railings . I remember standing in the well where the locomotive engine would have been. At the time VIA's plan was to improve on the 16-251F's fuel consumption by changing the type of liners, replacing the old air compressor to a rotary type and other improvements. As we now know this never came to be, VIA ended up buying the GE's to replace the LRC locomotives in the corridor service. Gerry Gaugl Ottawa ON Date: 12/11/18 18:01 Re: MLW Monday - CAD 2001 Author: cn6218 The 2005 TSG shows 6912 included in the LRCs that went to IRSI (Moncton) in 2004. I have some pictures of the hospital train that took them there, but can't find that particular number.
For many years there was an LRC at CAD that could be seen from the Autoroute. The paint on it reminded me of an Amtrak scheme. Could it (and the test bed) have been one of the Amtrak demonstrators? Here is the 2004 hospital train, crossing the south branch of the Miramichi River on April 28. GTD |
