Canadian Railroads > Frosty Via #2 in the MountainsDate: 12/30/18 15:33 Frosty Via #2 in the Mountains Author: cp1400 Via train #2 The Canadian is still a great ride. This past Friday I had the occasion to ride east from Vancouver that included through the first heavy snow storm of the season in the Rockies. The track was smooth, food delicious and staff friendly and helpful. Freight delays still exist but the padded schedule allowed us to keep a semblance of on time most of the way.

5. Trailing units were dusted even more with snow and ice. 6. The lead unit was cut off for use on the Rupert Rocket leaving extra frosted 6439 to lead east from Jasper. cp1400 Date: 12/30/18 15:39 Re: Frosty Via #2 in the Mountains Author: cp1400 7. Even Prestige Class in Glacier Park didn’t escape the weather.
8. A mountain miracle occurred east of Jasper when the clouds lifted. cp1400 Date: 12/30/18 15:41 Re: Frosty Via #2 in the Mountains Author: cp1400 9. A herd of big horn sheep keep a wary eye on the skyline car carrying camera toting tourists.

Date: 12/30/18 17:11 Re: Frosty Via #2 in the Mountains Author: andersonb109 Best photos of the Canadian I've ever seen! Two Prestige cars in Winter. Business must be good. Amtrak please note three locos. Plenty of power even if one craps out. But I don't understand the comment about smooth track? How can that be? TO member "Streamliner" has told us several times he felt his life was in danger on such horrible rough track, especially when the train was "speeding." Glad you had a great trip. Can't wait for my annual one in March.
