This is the one day of the week both "Canadians" are due in Winnipeg.

There was a 27-car derailment in CP's Upper Spiral Tunnel at 10:10 a.m. on January 3 and the route might be closed until next Tuesday, January 8. Edited 1 time(s). I think the protocol has always been that when one railroad is using the track of another road the "guest" railroad is always responsible for damage to tracks or structures. Accordingly the guest railroad would also be responsible for damage to its own equipment. As far as I know this is standard AAR practice. Two railroads may have a special agreement with regard to situations like this but if no special agreement exists the standard practice prevails... The post above said the CN derailment was east of Portage la Prairie. I was only suggesting CP from Portage to Winnipeg. If the engine or car is a total loss there is a evaluation table setting the value of the destroyed item which the wrecking railroad pays to the other railroad.

I briefly worked for the New York Central Railroad in Manhatten, back in 1964. My workplace was a wooden desk with just two things on it: A manual typewriter and a Dictaphone player. My desk was one of about a dozen desks in a large un-air conditioned room, in a building long gone, at 466 Lexington Avenue.The rows of desks all faced the front, where several employees were going through stacks of paper forms, and dictating appropriate letters, that we would transcribe. That was the only topic -- damage to foreign-owned equpment. All essentially just form letters. The job was really a sweatshop-style kind of thing, but we got the work done. |
