Canadian Railroads > SD40 all Shiney & New!

CN SD40 5236 at Stellarton NS in January 1972....having just arrived on a 'Fast Freight' from Sydney. A rare beast on the Hopewell Subdivision....this was MLW Territory!

I spotted it on my way home from school and grabbed my new Bell & Howell 35mm camera I had just got for Christmas.

You went from Shinny, which is a form of ice hockey, to shiney, which I think is incorrect.

Perhaps shiny is what you are going for?  :-)

For all of the great postings you put on here I am sure we can forgive a VERY minor transgression such as this.

I just realized I saw the same unit in Candor, NC last May.  It is now Aberdeen, Carolina and Western Railway 6922, oddly the only SD40-3 to not get repainted in ACWR's attractive green and cream paint scheme.  Not looking so hot, but at least it's still with us.

Very striking! By the time I was shooting in 1976, I don't know if I ever saw the pilot stripes looking like that on any CN power. The fact the frame is grey, not white, sure shows with the snow to tell you what white really looks like.

5236...at what number did the wide noses begin?

They are all wide noses.  However comfort cabs started at 5241.

Black & white pilot stripes were first thing I noticed in this photo and realized it looked unusual.
