Canadian Railroads > 37 cars of crude derail on CN Manitoba main lineDate: 02/16/19 14:33 37 cars of crude derail on CN Manitoba main line Author: Marcus About 03:30 Saturday,
37 cars of crude oil derailed on the CN main line, just east of the SK/MB border at St. Lazare, MB. The Transportation Safety Board has dispatched a team of investigators. There are no reports of injuries or ignition. Unfortunately for St. Lazare, MB, this is not the first hazardous derailment. In 1991, the 400 residents of St. Lazare were evacuated for six days after 88 cars derailed, resulting in a toxic cloud of acetic anhydride and methanol. Meanwhile, 60 kilometres southwest, in the town of Moosomin, SK, a pro-pipeline rally was being held. Speakers included federal Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, and New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs. Mr. Moe told reporters that the derailment exemplifies why oil is better transported by pipeline. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/trail-derails-manitoba-1.5022583 https://www.westmanjournal.com/news/local-news/train-with-oil-cars-derails-near-st-lazare-mb-1.23636833 https://www.westmanjournal.com/news/provincial-news/cn-says-train-leaking-crude-following-derailment-in-western-manitoba-1.23636831 http://cdd.publicsafety.gc.ca/dtpg-eng.aspx?cultureCode=en-Ca&provinces=1%2C2%2C3%2C4%2C5%2C6%2C7%2C8%2C9%2C10%2C11%2C12%2C13&normalizedCostYear=1&dynamic=false&eventId=149 http://www.bst-tsb.gc.ca/eng/medias-media/deploiement-deployment/rail/2019/20190216.asp Edited 1 time(s).
