PIC in Canada

Noted a piece on PTC on 60 Minutes tonight.  Is there PTC or something similar on the busy CN mainline between Winnipeg and Edmonton?

There is no PTC anywhere in Canada, period.

PTC is an American sytem mandated by the American congress.
Last time I looked, Canada is not part of America.

Well technically Canada is part of America, but not part of the United States of America which is where PTC is mandated.

Given the amount of train wrecks in Canada recently, perhaps the system should be considered.

There isn't a thing PTC could do about derailments san collisions, couplers breaking,  and brake-failure-runaways.
Maybe something can be done on grade-crossing occupancy or falling rock fence warnings - I dont know.

YUP PTC controls the weather as well.  Please give your constant misinformed comments a break!

Still, it's a valid question regardless if it's mandated in Canada or not.  Since both CN and CP have large operations in the US where they are mandated to have PTC, the carriers may feel it would be useful in Canada as well.  They're already having to invest in the technology for locomotives that run in both countries.

In addition, and not often talked about, but PTC is also the beginnings of the Class One railroads plans to eventually implement one man crews.

There's a lot of costly hardware that needs to be installed along the right of way. I can't imagine CP and CN spending money on stuff they're not required to install.
Kinda hurts the bottom line and the investors ROI.

Unless you show them how much money the railroad will save by getting rid of employees.

Congratulations to Canada for NOT swallowing the PTC garbage.  Untested and unproven government mandate.  It is a daily - hourly nightmare on so much of the current U.S. system.  Read recent threads on Western Board.
