Very nice.  How fast were the RDC's typically moving through here?

Holy ****!!! I never knew Airdrie had so many elevators into the 1970's! At one time I was going to model the Calgary to Red Deer line in HO scale (circa 1975) although a scene like this would look great on a module.

At one time TRAINS magazine would do 'Speed Surveys'...showing the fastest trains in North America and these runs would occassionally be included.

If I remember correctly they used to do 89mph, thus getting involved in a lot of grade crossing accidents with drivers who could not judge speed. Especially during the final couple of years of their operation on this Calgary to Edmonton line. RY

No kidding! I remember the two green Alberta Wheat Pool ones into the mid 90's but that was it. A lot has sure changed since then.

Fabulous - vertical rules! Even that little bit of box car poking out past the lead RDC is such a nice detail. The two Alberta Pool elevators in the foreground were there into 1999, when a buddy and I just missed getting a SB past them. Next year, they were gone, or at least, in partial knock-down mode, with the wooden structures reduced to matchsticks, and the concrete structure in the middle still standing. I'll have to scan the results and post some time; three trains going past the remains in the span of about 40 minutes.
