VIA No. 2 Only 9 Minutes Late to Toronto Today
Author: andersonb109

A miracle has happened. VIA No. 2 is currently 9 minutes late approaching Toronto. I hope CN management isn't aware of this breech of poor customer service. The train made good progress across the country with maximum lateness about 5.5 hours. So obviously lots of recovery time available. I'm hoping today's train out of  Vancouver does the same as I'll be boarding that equipment hopefully Saturday night for the trip on No. 1. Looking forward to another great experience on the train. My train can be as much as 24 hours late with no worries but  I'll have Air Canada and Westjet schedules with me just in case.  Sad when that becomes necessary. Photo is from my last time on the train, August, 2017 in Thompson Canyon. On that trip we arrived into Vancouver "only" about 8 hours down in spite of perfect weather and an OT Winnipeg arrival from Toronto.

Somebody at CN must be on vacation.

Have a great trip!  Severe cold easing its grip.  Therefore, hope no more than single digit lateness for you!  Hope you are out of Toronto at 10:00 PM and not the next AM!  Will watch your progress!  Great photo of a great location!

It made up a few minutes and arrived at Union Station three minutes early.  This is the first time since the 15th of Jan. (when #2 was two hours early) that it wasn't late into Toronto.

Hope you do indeed have a great trip...at least you won't be suffering through another miserable outing by your "Mighty Wings" :)

The number 2 out of Vancouver doing pretty good for Jasper.  Of course, Edmonton to Winnipeg will tell the story.  And #1  made up time - down from 9 hours late to 5 hours down!  As you said, shhh!  don't tell CN!!  And we don't want to jinx it!!

Fascinating shot of the slide sheds and fence at Lasha coming up to Lytton. I've shot this several times from the other side of the river, so thanks for putting me in the train.

And today just when I thought 1 - 2 were having fairly decent runs, it took #1 5 hours to get from Winnipeg to Portage la Prairie!

Lasha is still three miles west of this location. This view shows the three Cape Horn rock sheds, at Mile 93.7, 93.8 and 93.9, respectively. The head-end of the train is entering Cape Horn Tunnel, at Mile 94.0.  Still to come are the Gladwin Tunnel, at Mile 94.7, and then Lasha, at Mile 96.5.

And thanks for the clarification; there's only so much you can get from the Trackside Guide, so the precision is welcome. I guess I'm going to have to get into the Burrows' Milepost books, which I've recently acquired second-hand, to get these details.

That's right, Fred, I got this info from my trusty Burrows' books. The sheds and tunnels are shown in the Trackside Guide in the Ashcroft Subdivision listing, but not in a manner that is as straightforward as Burrows.
