Cut up Today: CP Sleeper "Riverton", CP Buffer Parlour, NAR RPO
Author: Marcus

In the Spring of 2018,
CP assembled three historic passenger cars
in its Mayfair yard, an unused ex-intermodal yard in Coquitlam, B.C.
After years in private hands,
the cars were in poor condition, and determined to be beyond restoration.
There were to be decontaminated, harvested of usable parts, and dismantled.

1.  The three cars are seen in the Spring of 2018, from left to right,

CP “Riverton”, an 8-1-2 Sleeper built in 1929,
CP Buffet-Parlour 6667, later Coach 1387, built in 1926,
Northern Alberta Railways Railway Post Office 1453, built in 1930.

2. A truck of the “Riverton”, service long overdue.

3. The Northern Alberta Railways Railway Post Office 1453, repainted as CP 3570.

12&13.  Various parts were saved including the trucks, draft gear, air cylinders, etc.
All are bound for refurbishment and eventual use in CP’s heritage fleet.

Very interesting post . . thanks for taking the time to cover the dismantling - looks like all three were well beyond saving.  Museums all over North America have to be concerned with how many pieces on their property be maintained from both a financial and staffing/volunteer perspective.
