VIA No. 1 of June 9
Author: andersonb109

Any idea why VIA No. 1 has been sitting at Capreol since an on time arrival last evening?  (at least according to Transitdocs). Now posted as some 17 hours late. Perhaps CN has put yet another train on the ground?

Aren't the troubles usually west of WInnipeg ?
I wish they'd reroute it on the CP, especially now with bus service all but gone through the more populated areas.
Run the RDC instead on the CN between Winnpeg and Capreol, or an F40, baggage, coach, and Park car.

Of course, now Monday, I am  wondering the same thing!  Some 18 hours late for La Forest!  CN derailment?

As usual a bit of digging might show you that there is a large forest fire in the area and the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) have stopped any and all passage through the area.

So is this still CN's fault?

But we all appreciate your keeping on top of the situation!

I was in fact worried that you were not going to report on this.

If the train is a day late for Vancouver not getting in until Friday, it will be tough getting it back out as #2 at 15:00 on Friday.  Wonder if there is an extra set at Vancouver, but not likely an extra Prestige Park.

Is Via apt to bus us 2 people Friday? Late would be fine,I planned that in.
But I will head for Seattle to get back to Ohio rather than bus to Jasper or wherever to meet the late 1.

Well, we got a bus ride —to Granville Island for dinner and shopping.

and we got to relax outside in the lounge to watch all the preparations and the beautiful train in three parts, now being assembled for  11 pm boarding and 12 midnight departure.

Thanks for the updates!  Have been watching this closely!
Did you mean VIA sent you on the bus ride and out for dinner on Granville while waiting?
Have a great trip east!

Every VIA employee has been superb, cheerful, and helpful. The scenery from farms to mountains to oil, grain and and container trains is great.
