Canadian Railroads > Canadian #2 question

On the VIA Canadian #2 what time should you get up to view the Candian rockies and the falls.  Is it possible in daylight goint east?

Well according to the most recent schedule arrival at Jasper is 11 am! So should get some good viewing eastbound if upvat 6:00 am!

True, but depends on schedule adherance.

The current schedule shows Via 2 through Blue River at 0511, and usually the eastbound train is close to on time. The mountain scenery starts east of Blue River BC.

It all depends on when you're traveling. Sunrise in Blue River tomorrow is 4:48. In two months....mid September and it will be 6:30 am.

Basically, this is a question of when the sun comes up. No matter when sunrise is, and no matter where you are at that time, get yourself up in the dome about 15 min before sunrise. There will be plenty to look at, and you will probably end up with the front left seat in the dome, AKA the railfan seat, until it’s time for breakfast. 

Wildlife viewing is best around this time, even if the sun hasn’t made it over the nearest  ridge yet.  And just watching the great silver snake going around curves in predawn light is worth the sleep deprivation. 

Enjoy. This is one of the best things a railfan can do with his time ( and with his butt).
