(1-3) The eastbound SC at the CN yards and station in Jasper. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/23/19 12:41 by gcm. Date: 07/14/19 07:09 Re: Super Continental at Jasper,BC Author: gcm (4) nice view
(5-6) Here is something I never thought I would see - hanging kerosene marker lamps on a train - for real not some tourist train. The markers were used from Vancouver, then a deadhead coach was added at Jasper so they were moved. Kerosene markers hadn't been used in the states for decades so seeing this (along with the many kerosene switch lamps in yards) was amazing to me - like the 50's ! It was built by P-S in 1948 as a 22 roomette car for the NYC (Pigeon Bay). Date: 07/14/19 07:11 Re: Super Continental at Jasper,BC Author: gcm Date: 07/14/19 07:12 Re: Super Continental at Jasper,BC Author: gcm (12) This is the Athabasca (Milwaukee Road 53).
One of ten cars built by P-S in 1952 for the Milwaukee Road. CN acquired 6 of them in 1964. Here are a few shots from inside --- https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,4447262,4447264#msg-4447264 (13) Ex-CN diner 1375 is on the left. 1375 was built as a coach by CCF in 1947. It was rebuilt to a diner in 1965. Brewsters "Royal Glacier Tour" would take in the Columbia Icefield and other scenic locations and deliver you to Banff and/or Lake Louise. The bus station is now at the east end of the station, Brewster and other tour operators still offer this service. I always wondered why they lasted so long. The CN crew hung them on the rear Montrealler coach when they got on at St Albans to complete the journey to Montreal during one of my mid-1970's trips.

Thanks very much for posting this excellent series. ALLEN Date: 07/14/19 13:37 Re: Super Continental at Jasper,BC Author: perklocal I agree with the others. You really captured some great Human Interest images. Nice Post !

Date: 07/14/19 15:03 Re: Super Continental at Jasper,BC Author: zartok-35 Excellent coverage of the VIA Super Connie, and an excellent view of the operational side of the train! One interesting detail is the inclusion of the Cafe Lounge and Superdome cars together out of Vancouver. In the fall of 1980, these cars were usually switched out for one another in Edmonton, in a bid to reduce wear and tear on the domes.
The deadhead added to the rear is par the course for traditional CN practice. Posted from iPhone Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 07/14/19 15:23 by zartok-35. Date: 07/14/19 18:50 Re: Super Continental at Jasper,BC Author: 4489 zartok-35 Wrote:

FYI, a Super Connie is an aircraft nickname, not the nickname of a CN/VIA Rail train. > > Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/15/19 07:53 by 4489.
