Canadian Railroads > CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild ProgramDate: 07/18/19 16:02 CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: fatnrat It was announced earlier this week that CN is to start an SD70ACC rebuild program with IC SD70s very similar to what NS is doing now. Per a Facebook post by Canadian Railway Observations. Time to shoot the SD70s while you still can.

What units are they rebuilding, the CN SD75's or the 8000 and 8800's. NS did a program on both, their 6900's and 7200's ????? Mike Bannon St Catharines, ON Date: 07/19/19 08:55 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: fatnrat algoma11 Wrote:

But there's a potential program on the SD75s too I believe Joe Tarantine Date: 07/19/19 13:00 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: tsokolan That “news item” reported in CRO is just a rumour/another one of Baird's fantasy ideas. CRO is notorious for reporting Railfan gossip as news, I’d wait until there’s an official press release from the Railway.

Would be neat to see such a program.

I suspect this will only happen if the managment figures it will be a cost savings.
-Trevor Date: 07/20/19 22:08 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: fatnrat It is official. Even Wikipedia has been informed of it.
Joe Tarantine Date: 07/21/19 13:16 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: BCR4619 I thought you were joking but sure enough....
"15 SD70ACC units, number series TBD. Units are to be rebuilt from ex-Illinois Central SD70s." Date: 07/21/19 15:59 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: greasemonkey The trouble is, anyone can "update" a Wikipedia article. So there is no guarantee of accuracy.
Date: 07/21/19 17:58 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: algoma11 Cn does not have a shop that could do a large rebuild program-suffice to say I still think its someone wishful thinking?????
Mike Bannon St Catharines, ON Date: 07/22/19 01:37 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: MitchGDRMCo Since when do they need one to have these units rebuilt?
Date: 07/22/19 03:18 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: algoma11 Since rebuilding large numbers of units is done in house- CN's style !

CRO is more of an online newsletter subscription. Some quite good photos and content and he’s been good at getting pics of new motive power quickly. And yes, the grumpiness on TO is often off putting, Date: 07/23/19 03:27 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: algoma11 Those of us that once subscribed to CRO learned first hand about the lack of credibility in the info.
I live in CN country and there has not been a peep around here on any kind of CN program, so skeptical news is questioned from a questionable source. Sorry if the quest to get accurate and true info makes some of us seem grumpy. CN has rebuilt used units they bought but are not known since GP9 days of running big rebuild programs ! Most of the photos come from the same 2 or 3 photographers .... > > And yes, the grumpiness on TO is often off > putting, There is some truth in that statement ... BUT ... there is much more factual, useable information on TO. Incorrect info is usually spotted and corrected quickly. Well, as far as I know, the owner of TO has never used other photographer's images without permission and/or outright pulled photos off of other sites (like railpics) removed the copyright banner and inserted said photo in their online magazine, of which they charge a fee to access! And I have found most of the info on TO to be factual compared to what was reported in CRO. -Trevor Date: 07/23/19 10:43 Re: CN to Start SD70ACC Rebuild Program Author: SOO6617 algoma11 Wrote:

CP doesn't have a shop capable of heavy rebuilds either, but that hasn'y stopped them from having locomotives rebuilt. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/23/19 21:08 by SOO6617. |
