Forty Friday
Author: hoggerdoug

May 1981 BCR train #23 (VP symbol) at Australian which is mile 365.2 on the Prince George subdivision. The cars in the background are on the old main line which at one time about a mile or south used to cross Australian Creek on a wooden trestle. The trestle had a 10 mph speed limit and towards the end also "no dynamic brake" while locomotives were on the bridge trestle. It was a bit of challenge train handling southbound with a several miles descending grade approaching the bridge. In the late 1970's, a large earthen fill and large culverts were created west of the main track and bridge, when completed the wood trestle was removed and the old main north of the bridge was used for storing cars etc.

Were the combination door boxcars stored due to a traffic slowdown or were they waiting scrapping?
