GrainsConnect and VIA 601-603
Author: Ray_Murphy

It was dark and rainy this morning when I decided to catch VIA 601-603 in Ville St-Pierre (Montreal). Just when I expected the VIA train to show up, a headlight came creeping around the bend in the other direction. It was GECX 2041 and CN 8830 moving a unit train of GrainsConnect hoppers that had been parked on the 4th track here all week (Pictures 1-3).

These hoppers are quite new (Picture 4), and I didn’t see a single mark of graffiti on the entire train, a welcome change.

Pictures 5 and 6 show the VIA train, led by 6455 and with 6410 for the second part of the combined train.

Grains Connect evidently has more corporate pride than GECX. It is nice to see a clean train; I saw a similar cut of Louid Dreyfuss grain cars in Viking a while back, and it was refreshing. I'm sure these'll get tagged eventually.
