Any effect on railway operations in Nova Scotia from Dorian?

Perhaps let the people get their normal lives back.  You know simple things like electricity, food etc.

Railfanning today may not on the top of the to do list yet!

Going to be a couple of days before cn/cbns gets backs to full operation

Estimated 80% of ns is without power. No power for grade crossing devices

Many many trees blown down. The railways will have to inspect thier trackage and remove fallen trees. Fallen trees may have damage signal lines (not sure if cn's ctc control lines are still above ground) and power supplies to power switches

Plus thier employess in NS likly dont have power at home

Generally a big mess but NO SERIOUS INJURES have been reported.

VIA Ocean Train #14 and #15 are shown to be travelling in New Brunswick near Moncton....... Train #14 estimated to arrive into Halifax early evening, after being delayed 24 hours. So seems that VIA Ocean train is “running.”

The "tsimobile" site is wrong regarding #15. Number 15 is to depart 24 hours late, i.e. Monday at 12:45. With #14 running 24 hours late (plus an extra two hours late which is the way it has been for the past few weeks) there would be no train in Halifax to become #15 for its Sunday departure.

Loleta, you hit it out of the park with that one!  So very well said!  And, I do not believe the OP was addressing “railfanning,” but asking a legitimate transportation question.

Streamliner the impact of the hurricane on the transport of goods to ns is a very important question.

A major issue is when will Halifax I m f be able to receive trains.The daily intermodal train into halifax supplies much of the retail sector. Most importantly many of the food products for grociery stores in ns come from central Canada via the cn intermodal trains. This will directly impact our grocery stores. Also many grocery stores have been using thier back back up generators..... if they run out of fuel, thier perishable food stocks will have to be replaced..

Thus, if the cn intermodal trains cannot run into halifax for a couple of days it could be a major issue

While halifax imf may not be operable, they can unload in moncton as an alternate, but we still could have shortages.

But it seems that #14 made it ALL THE WAY to Halifax today, Sunday, 9/8/2019....No? Isn't that a good sign, considering? I realize there's still massive issues and questions to deal with for Nova Scotia. It looked to have gotten a direct hit........Amtrak would still be halting trains, and I am sure electric is still out throughout most of the region, yet the VIA Ocean train may have made it through from Montreal to Halifax. The CN line may have faired well and still had electric for its signalling systems???

Cbns. Was able to run stellerton to port hawksbury to night.

Although rescheduled by a day, the arrival in Halifax was only 2 hours 44 minutes late. As usual with #14, most of that delay occurred prior to Campbellton. Excerpts from VIA's status page:

Depart Montreal: 1900 (19:00)
Depart Sainte-Foy: 23:00 (22:49)
Depart Mont-Joli 03:38 (03:39)
Depart Campbellton: 09:55 (07:48)
Depart Moncton: 15:49 (13:38)
Arrive Halifax: 20:35 (17:51)

WOW.  If this is how you perceived my posting I would think that there arre hundreds in the same vein you may wish to respond to!

Best wishes to the people of Nova Scotia, and hopes for a rapid recovery.  This storm has been a killer for weeks.

(A few weeks ago, the weather people in south Florida were pontificating that the storm would be shredded on the mountains of Hispaniola. And, later, that upper level shear would behead it.  Oh, well...)

Don't take it personally , some folks can't wait to jump all over you sometimes. I took your question as a simple whats up with rail traffic, the other clowns made it into a " you are insensitive " post !

Wow.

The eye of Dorian passed just off the coast of Virginia where I live after crossing the Outer Banks of North Carolina as a Category 2. I think we are about 30 miles inland. We had top winds of 30mph and some rain for about 3 hours in the morning. Minor flooding where it usually floods and very little tree damage at all.
