Canadian Railroads > CN on CR, cool stuff back in '76Date: 10/25/19 16:36 CN on CR, cool stuff back in '76 Author: EL833 While this duo probably didn't turn heads up in Canada in 1976, it sure did down in the states. Along with the mixing up of component roads power in Conrail's first years came a large number of borrowed locomotives. Case in point is the GP40-2/M636 duo shown on the former Erie in Akron, Ohio in November 1976. Remember, back then wide cabs were a Canadian thing- that revolution was years away on most American roads. We enjoyed a larger percentage of these north of the border visitors on the former EL as cab signals were not needed over ex EL lines. And I should have walked over and grabbed a photo of that truck too...

The green was already replaced by the white/red/green on the CF highway tractors. 2. Freightliner Corp was already in the process of ending their sales/marketing agreement with White Motor. This made White Freightliner's - Freightliner's after the 1977 model year (you could buy a White-Freightliner or a Freightliner in 1976/77). Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). It's not a completey accurate generalization, but the greater average age of much of the U.S. made for much more interesting backgrounds, like the brick building with stack.

As for today, those EL tracks are gone, you'd never know a railroad was there. That factory was also leveled years ago. It use to make bedding items like mattresses and box springs. I remember being just as impressed when US power showed up on Canadian roads. Brian N. |
