The narrow stripe scheme, love it or hate it
Author: EL833

The Canadian Pacific has had several variations of it's "Action Red" scheme over the years. Hands down my favorite was the narrow stripe version as seen here on an M636 at Windsor, Ontario in July 1976. While I'm sure it was a PITA to apply, it stood out.

This is the original version of the scheme.

I like anything Action Red, but my favourite was the 8" stripes on the nose only.

I'm with you on the esthetics, Roger. Very nice perspective, too. Crouching got rid of stuff growing out of the cab roof, and really emphasized the gorgeous MLW/Alco cab profile. Sweet.

Believe it or not the original plan, that was released to the media and the public, had motive power painted black, with a red Multimark.  No units were ever painted in this scheme.

Thank goodness someone had a sober second thought about black diesels.

Amen Roger ! I loved those thin stripes all across the nose too. It must have been very time consuming masking them off.
