Canadian Railroads > Nighttime aerial long exposures west of Toronto Union Station

As a first time visitor to Toronto, I haven't yet found the name of the complex interlocking(s?) that lie west of Toronto Union Station. What I did know, though, was where to be to at least see it. My partner and I needed a place to stay for several nights, and she found several airbnb's in the "Cityplace" area (sounds like a realtor neighborhood name.) I meticously reviewed the listings to discern which ones had a view of the tracks and landed on one that was amazing, from the standpoint of watching the parade of traffic. Here are three images at night of what I could see. It too awhile to get the timing right for the top images, where two inbound trains both passed through on each side. That photo was a four minute exposure. The lights of the UP Express on the right shine a lot brighter than the MP40 lights on the GO trains. The second shot is a closer look at the signals. Lastly, a view of downtown, which offered a less compelling view of the tracks.

Some of the features shown in your superb images are the Spadina Avenue bridge at Mile 0.7 of the Union Station Rail Corridor (at right in your third photo), GO Transit's North Bathurst Yard (in the same photo), and Bathurst Street bridge (Mile 0.9, USRC) in the foreground of your first photo.

Thanks for the additional info and the comments! I have more photos to process. In daylight, I focused on video, and I'm going make a video that I'll post that shows the most high-action scenes where 2, 3, or 4 trains are passing at once.

That treed area to the right contains "Fort York", the British fort protecting York (the old name for Toronto) during the War of 1812. Although York was captured by the US, and briefly occupied, when the British retreated, they set fire to the magazine in the Fort which exploded, killing many of the advancing US troops including the commander. In retaliation, portion of York were burned and citizens killed.

Corrected. So many Forts in Ontario.   

Superb choice of accomodation!  Excellent night shots.  I look forward to seeing the daytime action.
