St Lambert circa 1977
Author: briancdn

The transition from CN to VIA in 1977 presented the railfan with multiple colour schemes. CN, VIA with a red CN on the nose, VIA with a red VIA on the nose, etc, etc. Throw in Amtrak's Montrealer, the occassional all RDC consists; and commuter trains, and there was never a dull moment!

Here's a few shots from that wonderful time period.

4 & 5 Train 616 was a solid RDC (Railiner) consist

6) RS-18's on a commuter train. This service was discontinued in the 80's, but was revived and is now a vital link from Montreal to St Hyacinthe.

9) A train arrives on a frigid Feb afternoon. Next stop; Montreal's central station.

Hope you enjoyed the look back.

Great shots! Thanks.

The Ocean in the first photo would have included some through cars to Sydney...to be set out at Truro for Train #18.

And the Montrealer....Don't see too many photos posted!

Great photos as usual.  A small correction if I may.  Dayliners was a CP moniker for RDC's.  CN & VIA called theirs Railiners.

Cheers.

Does anyone know who had a larger fleet of RDC's (physcial cars, not routes - although could answer that way too!) - CN or CP?

Loved the Montrealer. Sad to have seen that train been discontinued. The perfect getaway train from the Northeast to the North!
