120 from Early November
Author: cn6218

Not sure how this one slipped through the cracks, but back on November 2nd I got word that 120 would be rather late, meaning I had a chance at some photos beyond just the usual Halifax area shots.

The light doesn't come around on the nose of an eastbound train at Folly Lake until about 09:00, but by this time (almost 11:30), it was actually a bit too nosy at the east end of the siding.  I considered going further up the siding until I discovered that 407 was in it, waiting for 120 to go by (just out of sight around the curve in the first shot).

After waiting for the train to clear the crossing east of the siding, I went straight down the hill, while the train went through its famous "Grecian bends", and got the second shot of the day 14 minutes later on the East Mines Trestle.  CN had quite a variety of motive power on the train, with no two alike, including ES44AC 2851, Dash 8-40CMu BCOL 4611, SD70M-2 8960 and GP40-2L 9544, which would stay in Halifax as a switcher.

The cloudless sky persisted all the way to Halifax, where it was also windless, as 120 crossed the causeway across Moirs Mill Pond in Bedford.

Very nice!  The trestle photo really illustrates the relative smallness of the GP40 next to the SD70.

Perfect work, and the trestle shot is ideal for the mixed consist. Nice startled flock, too.
