It was the lead unit on the fatal runaway on the Spiral Tunnels section east of Field on February 4th, 2019.
2) When will the official accident report be released? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/29/19 12:06 by GN1969. Date: 11/28/19 14:48 Re: CP 9538 fatal runaway on the Spiral Tunnels section east of F Author: railsmith GN1969 Wrote:

On June 29, 2006, there was a fatal runaway on the former BC Rail mainline. Two men were killed. The TSB investigation was very thorough and its report was released on May 28, 2009, so it took one month short of three years. On that basis, I'd say check back in early 2022. Date: 11/29/19 11:49 Re: CP 9538 fatal runaway on the Spiral Tunnels section east of F Author: PlyWoody The TSB immediately gave a reason why the train had no air brakes as they told everyone that the air brake control handle was left in emergency position when the inbound crew left the train. That means the train line is a zero pressure and after 2 or 3 hours the remaining air in the entire train bled off. When the outbound crew move the brake handle away from emergency position, it released what few brake shoes were held against any wheel, and they had an immediate run away. Too bad they did not jump off at that moment.
The remaining question is why the inbound crew did not apply any hand brakes on the train and charged the brake line back up. Just as if the crew had a beef with the management as they were outlawed on time. The inbound crew should be charged for murder of the replacement crew. Edited 2 time(s). I know and trained the inbound engineer, as well I knew the engineer that lost his life, when I worked Field Hill during my career at CP Rail. So before you go spouting off, do us all a favour before you type your next message and think of something constructive to submit to this group, instead of something stupid. Wait for the report. Hopefully it will be photo-illustrated to your satisfaction. http://www.tsb.gc.ca/eng/enquetes-investigations/rail/2019/R19C0015/R19C0015.html The update mentions a typical time of 600 days for reports of this complexity. From other forums, track changes started to be made earlier in 2019. It appears the grade seperated double track west of Lake Louise to Stephen is being extended westward to the Highway 1A grade crossing. I wonder if they'll consider coming that far......

They were talking about creating "staging" tracks. As of late summer the plan seemed to be to continue the double track to the Highway 1a-Lake O'Hara crossing. Big changes planned for Field east, some of the ties laid out.
