Updated Nov 27, 3:51 PM; Posted Nov 27, 1:25 PM Families across Michigan have a chance to see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train pass through the state Saturday night as the annual trip through southeast Michigan takes place that evening. It’s unknown exactly when the train will pass through the region as it will have to clear customs at the U.S./Canada border before traveling to Chicago. The train is scheduled to depart from Windsor around 6:30 p.m., but that could be delayed. The train then makes its way through the region passing several viewing points in Wayne, Washtenaw and Lenawee counties among others. The brightly lit train features 14 cars that are decorated in holiday lights and Santa Claus is usually there as well. However, the company has said the lights may be turned off for security reasons as it travels through the state and says its won’t reveal its plans ahead of time. Canadian Pacific reminds those hoping to see the train to stay at least 50 feet away from the tracks as the train passes by. The train trip is part of an effort to gather food for those in need in the holiday season. Running each holiday season since 1999, the train has raised more than $15.8 million Canadian and collected 4.5 million pounds of food. “The CP Holiday Train is a program that our 13,000-strong CP family has immense pride in bringing to communities every year. Access to nutritious food is a basic necessity, and food bank usage is on the rise across North America. The CP Holiday Train program is our way to help in the fight against hunger by growing awareness of this issue and providing a fun and engaging way for the public to show their support.” said Keith Creel, CP’s President and Chief Executive Officer in a statement.
