Date: 12/01/19 03:34 Re: 112 at Morants Author: andersonb109 CP main line east of Lake Louise. Location named after famous Canadian Pacific house photographer Nicholas Morants who took many publicity shots of trains there including the Canadian back in the day. The location is probably one of if not the most famous railway location in North American. Trees certainly have grown up obscuring part of the curve in recent years. Someone needs to do some gardening.

This is Via #2 a week before it stopped running on CP rails through Calgary. Date: 12/01/19 04:58 Re: 112 at Morants Author: robj Via - And before the trees, looks like ferrying some extra cars? I am not a big book buyer, but have both of Morant's books.
Both interesting and some tragic elements. Bob Date: 12/01/19 05:11 Re: 112 at Morants Author: ATSF5669 In this case, given the historic significance of the train pictures made here, and the incredible vista this offers, that the trees haven't been removed to keep the view of the tracks clear.

It's a national park. Ain't gonna happen. Date: 12/01/19 05:47 Re: 112 at Morants Author: mp35mountain Congratulations on Image of the Day!

Great location. 611 Posted from iPhone Date: 12/01/19 06:40 Re: 112 at Morants Author: SpeederDriver Date: 12/01/19 07:03 Re: 112 at Morants Author: KickingHorse The contractor that replaced the box culvert and retaining wall in the fall-winter-spring of 2017-18 could have removed the trees easily and cheaply. Parks prohibited it.

at that curve as well as other spots along this route. Definitely a great place to watch steam operate. Date: 12/01/19 08:35 Re: 112 at Morants Author: King_Coal Very nice. I also enjoyed the reverse photos. Never knew what was behind the photographer's back.
I guess maintenance of the pole line had kept the trees at bay for almost a century. Date: 12/01/19 08:41 Re: 112 at Morants Author: Valleyman They finally removed the pole lines, only to be replaced with trees! Almost as bad as the UP Keddie Wye in the Feather River Canyon. In five years you’ll be really pressed just to see the tracks.
Valleyman Date: 12/01/19 09:07 Re: 112 at Morants Author: Trainatic Beautiful picture. Can't wait to come back up there to visit again. Hopefully i will see you again soon.
Joe Date: 12/01/19 09:35 Re: 112 at Morants Author: TCnR Great post, interesting to see how Morant's Curve and also the Spiral Tunnels have fared over the years.
t4p. Morant's book is a keeper, no question. Very surprising used price: https://www.amazon.com/Nicholas-Morants-Canadian-Pacific-Garden/dp/0969162138/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=morant+canadian+pacific&qid=1575221658&sr=8-1 |
