Laggan Sub - Dec 1
Author: KickingHorse

Ignoring the radio chatter of trains east of the Canmore area, I went straight out to the Pass to do a more thorough investigation of the two-track extension. After passing Castle Junction, I hear 201 get told they're going in the hole at Eldon to let 113 by. Then they can follow 113 onto the north track and once 100 (just coming into Field) gets by Stephen, they can follow 603 and 113 down the hill.

Passing over the tracks by Divide, I can see some Canpotex cars. Yup 603 is here.

Going down the hill, I notice that the ploughed snow is not that much yet and I could pull over safely near the closed entrance of the LST viewpoint. The tunnels are in the shade all day long at this time of year but what the heck.
Here's 100 exiting the Lower Spiral Tunnel

Well now the plan is to shoot the two-track extension pics, ignore 603 and hope to catch 100 on the south track while either 113 or 201 is above it on the the north track. Even though it is only just past noon some of the two-track along the highway is in the shade so I pick a spot just west of where the TCH goes over the south track.

First up is 113 at 12:32

113 just gets stopped (in the shade) and 100 comes by

Here comes the tail of 100 and 201 is crawling up to stop behind 113

With 201 stopped I went west a bit, made a U-turn in the only gap in the Jersey barriers (illiegal but traffic very light) and catch the tail of 201

Although BNSF units are not as rare as other foreign power, they are not that common either. So I grab the 8480 flying by Castle
