Canadian Railroads > CN freight, Kelowna BC, 1978Date: 01/09/20 13:28 CN freight, Kelowna BC, 1978 Author: eminence_grise The CN Kelowna to Kamloops freight is shown departing their Kelowna yard northbound in July 1978. Note the CN GM switcher on the shop track, and a CN Transport reefer trailer.
Until the early 1970's, CN had a network of street running tracks serving fruit packing houses , the lead to which would have branched about where the third unit is in the photo. Note the water tower base in the foreground, which was accessed from the packing house lead. For many years, CN GP38W's were standard power in the Okanagan. Note the detachable ditch lights. Today, there is not a trace of the rail yard, or the building supply yard in the background. There is a high end resort hotel, condos, and a sports arena on the site. CN's Kelowna station is preserved as a restaurant and bar. Date: 01/09/20 20:19 Re: CN freight, Kelowna BC, 1978 Author: krm152 Thanks for the interesting photo post.
