Canadian Railroads > Shubenacadie Saturday SunshineDate: 01/21/20 15:41 Shubenacadie Saturday Sunshine Author: cn6218 It took 18 days, but we finally got a day of mostly sunshine for the first time this year in Halifax this past Saturday.
First contact was 507 coming back from switching the propane dealer and cement silos at Bedford Quarry. Apparently all three propane dealers in the metro area were about to run out of product this past weekend, so I hope they were able to leave some loads too. They're shown here near DeWolf Park on the Bedford waterfront, with a pair of GP38-2Ws that have been assigned to Rockingham for the past few weeks. Farther west (or north, as the crow flies), 120 was on its way to town. They're shown here first at Shubenacadie East, just after passing the mile 44 detector on the Bedford Sub. There wasn't really that much snow, but the fast moving train (HBD clocked them at 60 mph) sucks up that fine powery stuff between the rails and creates a mini blizzard. By the time 120 got to the Quarry at mile 13, the pace had slowed to 30 mph due to propane tankers in the train, and a bit more of it was visible behind 3193, 8832 and 5625. The DPU was another GEVO. Funny that with the worn paint, you can see two CN logos on the end of the longhood, and the older larger one looks fresher than the latter.

Smaller fuel tanks, or lowered capacity in the tanks (like the 3500s had for a while)? They seem to have the same frame as the others. Apparently the safety cabs added a lot of weight, so it needed to be shaved off somewhere else if the total was too high.
