Long Hood Forward Forty Friday
Author: cn6218

Here's CN SD40u 6001, the former 5002, eastbound around mile 22 of the Bedford Sub with what appears to be left over traffic from 308 (the overnight Dartmouth train). With the ditch lights and full plow pilot, these rebuilds were obviously intended to operate in either direction, and this one doesn't look too bad doing just that.  The yellow car right behind the power is interesting.  It was one of two covered hoppers owned by the Bangor & Aroostook that was used for locomotive sand.  I have other pictures of it being loaded at Nova Scotia Sand and Gravel's track in Milford, but it seems hard to believe that the sand was being taken all the way to Maine.  It might have been taking sand to the Windsor & Hantsport (by that time owned by Iron Road, the new BAR owner), but I don't recall ever seeing the car in Windsor or there being a place to store sand.

My notes say that this was train 507 in Wellington, NS on May 1, 1998.

Very nice action scene.  Especially like LHF.
Thanks for the posting.
