Canadian Railroads > More Downeast MLW MondayDate: 02/03/20 16:25 More Downeast MLW Monday Author: cn6218 WHRC RS-23s 8036 and 8038 were shuffling cars around at the CN interchange in Windsor Jct., NS on March 23, 2000. CN would generally set off cars in a siding parallel to the east leg of the wye. When the Windsor & Hantsport arrived, they would shove their cars in at the opposite end, and then run around to the west end and use both tracks to put the cars in the order they wanted. The little 6-cylinder 251s were well maintained and usually burned clean, even when working hard, but as they rev'd up, the turbo lag produced generous amounts of black smoke, as seen here. In the second frame, the work is all done, and the crew has settled down for the 32 mile trip back to Windsor, which will take the better part of 2 hours. The 1979 CP Atlantic Region timetable has freight No. 25 covering the same distance in 60 minutes, while the RDCs took only 45 minutes (including any stops).
