Via 1 of the 2nd has arrived in Kamloops some two hours early.  Are the passengers being bused from there?

On a related topic, has the Canadian consist that was stranded at Boston Bar moved to Vancouver?

Any updates of the washouts and CN/CP/Via train movements would be appreciated.

I don't know about the status of VIA trains but the CP intermodal train shown in cp1400's photo of last Friday at Boston Bar (CP 8945 leading, link below), with the stranded VIA train beside it, is being yarded at the Vancouver Intermodal Facility as I type this around 21:00. It came through Haney on the CP Cascade Sub. at 18:25 and I heard the conductor saying they'd gone on duty at 10:00. The train had to be recrewed for the yarding moves, which would include extracting the two remote units.

That is CP train 101-26 (26 signifies departure date from Toronto) so it's effectively six days late.

Via #1 that arrived in Kamloops this afternoon was annulled west of here. Passengers have been bused to Vancouver and the consist is sitting on the yard lead to the Rocky Mountaineer facility the same as they did on Feb 01.

It was announced on another forum that the Yale Sub has reopened Wed Feb 5 after being closed since Thur Jan 30 with the exception of a brief opening that allowed two trains trapped west of Boston Bar to complete their journey. Before any other trains could depart BB a third major incident stopped everything for an additional few days. One would imagine the trapped Via Canadian will be underway some time this evening and finally arrive in Vancouver one week late!

Edit update. Via 1 equipment that was trapped at Boston Bar is indeed underway and was heard on the radio passing through CN Thornton Yard on the outskirts of Vancouver at 22:45 Wednesday evening. Train is almost seven days late. The snowbound City of San Francisco was only trapped for Six days back in 1952.

Why aren't they detouring on the CP?  No. 2 uses the  CP with directional running.

If you'd been following these posts for the past several days, you'd realize these lines are plugged and have been pretty much at a standstill for almost a week. There's lots of eastbound traffic on both railways that has been delayed in Vancouver that will be using the CP to escape and lots of traffic parked west of Kamloops on CN behind the blockage. In this scenario, with the country's export trade at stake, a passenger train is needed like a hole in the head.

Contrary to your recent assertion in another post that VIA pays "handsomely" for the Canadian's track access, in fact it does not. It pays $6 milliion for a whole year, which equates to a measly $25,000 per train. In this, as in life generally, you get what you pay for.

Is that really comparable though? A VIA Hudson Bay Train set was stuck in Churchill for MONTHS!!! How does that compare? The had to ship it out by barge! If I recall correctly, the City of San Fransisco passengers were rescued after "three days of hell" per San Fransisco newspapers. How long did it take for VIA to get the passengers off this train and bussed?

Just saying - how does one compare....... Noteworthy? Absolutely!!!

One was buried in snow that was not passable and the train basically not operational..... The VIA train was operational but stuck between track washouts......

Just wondering, do those folks who paid so many thousands of dollars for "Prestige Class" get leather seats on the busses?

I'm sure they will pick the front seats next to the driver for the better view. However, should there be an accident, they would be first on the scene.

Oh, I don't know.  Prestige Class passengers ride at the back of the train, why not at the back of the bus? :)

Getting back on topic, 1(5) is running along the Fraser River this morning (9 February), the first Canadian to operate through to Vancouver in several days.

Significant time loss by Boston Bar.  Suppose #1 is running on major slow orders through the previous slide areas.

And likely lots of freight train congestion ahead of it.

The first Canadian out of Vancouver in a number of days, VIA 2(10), is running close to on time.  It was about one hour late out of Vancouver and 15 minutes late out of Jasper.
