Updated: CN has now banned all Amtrak trains from Canada
Author: Marcus

No Adirondack, No Maple Leaf, No Amtrak Cascades

posted on the Passenger Board

https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,4959150

Update:
The evening Amtrak Cascades train 518 that arrives in Vancouver at 23:00
has been reinstated.
BNSF still owns the tracks up to Vancouver,
though CN has a long term lease.
Perhaps CN, BNSF, and WSDOT had a conference call.

So now an American company is being affected as well. I just read CBC New; on line to gain more insight into this mess since I'm suppose to travel in March. There is a court injunction to remove the protesters. But the Liberal Canadian Government isn't enforcing it. Say what? It is beyond me why these people aren't being forcefully removed and arrested since that's what is being supported by the courts.

The Federal govt has said enforcing the court injunction is up to Provincial law enforcement, however no one really wants to ignite violence between police and protesters, as has happened in the past.

A certain disgruntled American asks over and over again why the federal LIberal govenrment of Canada hasn't stopped the protests. That question has been answered many times -- it's the responsbility of the provincial govenrments but that apparently doesn't satisfy him. Feel free to post when you have something new to add.

Transit docs is showing a #2 eastbound.  I thought nothing was moving.  What is this #2 about?

I am not a disgruntled American but I would call myself a baffled American as I continue to read about this situation.   Whether it be Federal government or provincial government is just amazes me how they can let this crap go on and on to the point that it now has a detrimental effect on the economy of the entire nation.

I just read more on the CBC website.  As far as I am concerned, this is now a national emergency.  Critical shortages are starting to occur.  Trudeau and company better get with it and take action.

It's a "ghost" train.  There is no train.

Reservia shows estimated times along the way, no actual times.

If understand correctly the protests are in support of one group of First Nations peoples refusing to allow a pipeline build through their territory. They are blocking the CN to cause economic disruption in hopes that the government will side with them against the pipeline owner. It has nothing to do with the railroad so it is like the protests earlier this year in Mexico where school teachers disrupted rail traffic to bring attention to their wage situation. What I don't understand it seems like they are blocking CN and VIA, why are they not blocking CP lines as well?

Actually our native friends are now objecting to CN tracks being built thru the Tyendinaga reserve near Bellville Ontaro.
I'm thinking that happened in the late 1800's-really!
Help is on the way though, our prime minister is cutting his Caribean trip short to actually come home and ignore the obvious from Ottawa, what a dork!

So just let them shut down the entire Country?  Sorry but they deserve violence if that's what it takes.

CP's main line into Vancouver was blocked at the east end of its major yard at Port Coquitlam. Lasted about 24 hours from mid-day Thursday. From news photos (which may have been deceptive) it appeared there was still some access from the east into that yard, but commuter rail traffic was blocked Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Then the protestors relocated elsewhere.

Jimbo or someone help me out with that one.  What is a ghost train?  A train on the computer only?  Saw that mentioned on the Churchill line some time but I never asked.  Thanks!!

Just as many of us Canadians are baffled by the leadership(?) shown by your president ....

It is really quite simple. Politics at the Federal level in Canada is controlled by the population that lives between Windsor, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec.  What they determine is important "goes". Right now their  elected politicians and along with their own personal virtue signalling is more important than the economy, and especially the resource based economy of Western Canada (that has no political voice). These people are so full of guilt over a propagandized so called "first nations" land rights issue they are ready to turn over large swaths of Western Canada to a "Hereditary Chief's" feudal system of Government.

This is an interesting lesson in Canadian politics.  As an American I have watched Brexit, the yellow vests in France, the populist government in Italy, and skin heads in Germany and so on and felt some comfort that the U.S. wasn't the only place where politics was screwed up.  But in all this Canada seemed like a sea of rational tranquility (except on St. Jean Baptiste day in Quebec).  So now I can feel even better knowing our wonderful northern neighbors are also less than perfect, just like us.

I too am somewhat confused over this issue.
You say the provincial governments are responsible for enforcement of the injunction. Yet, according to this article just posted by the Nationall Post, the RCMP enforced the injunction in BC. I assume the RCMP is a federal agency, yes? Why enforce the order in BC but not Ontario. If the provinces are responsible, why did the RCMP act in BC? And not Ontario?

The RCMP is contracted by the province of BC for providing provincial policing. The BC Provincial Police were amalgamated into the RCMP in the early 1950's.

Thanks for that. So the RCMP was acting for the province, not the national government.
