Canadian Railroads > CN's 'Canadian Flyer' ? CoachesDate: 03/25/20 04:38 CN's 'Canadian Flyer' ? Coaches Author: ghCBNS CN had a number of Coaches built by CC&F in the '30s & '40s with a rounded roof line very similar to the 'American Flyer' cars built by Osgood-Bradley.

Did they and CC&F have some sort of corporate relationship ? Date: 03/25/20 07:18 Re: CN's 'Canadian Flyer' ? Coaches Author: chrisk_yyz Very nice - thanks for sharing this background. They look almost European in their styling. I'd love to see some interior shots of these cars.

CC&F built other Pullman design cars as well, including the CN’s Green-series 6-4-6 sleepers. The Osgood Bradley building in Worcester, MA still stands today, repurposed as condominiums under the name “Edge at Union Station”. Dave Date: 03/25/20 07:45 Re: CN's 'Canadian Flyer' ? Coaches Author: DavidP Here's a picture of a couple of "Canadian Flyer" cars on the Cape Cod and Hyannis tourist train in 2011. I'm not sure if they are still working for successor Cape Cod Central.
The most obvious spotting feature differentiating the Canadian cars from their Osgood Bradley counterparts is their six-wheel tracks, vs. four-wheel on the US cars. The American cars were a staple of passenger travel in New England into the 1970s, with the New Haven, B&M and BAR all being original owners. Dave Date: 03/25/20 10:56 Re: CN's 'Canadian Flyer' ? According to Dave Randall's Streamliner Cars, Volume I, the CN Green series cars were built at the PS plant in the Chicago area, not by CC&F in Canada, and not at the former O-B plant in Worcester. Topfuel, I looked a little further and I think you’re right....thanks for the correction. Dave Date: 03/26/20 02:49 Re: CN's 'Canadian Flyer' ? Coaches Author: ghCBNS Date: 03/26/20 08:33 Re: CN's 'Canadian Flyer' ? Coaches Author: eminence_grise I seem to recall the interior lighting was all old style light bulbs, covered with glass globes with a combination of opaque and clear glass. Little ones underneath the luggage rack and larger ones along the centre of the roof.. Rotary switch to turn the luggage rack light on and off. Tighter seat spacing than other coaches. With ice air conditioning (or lack of it), I remember a crowded summer journey from Montreal to Toronto on a "stopper'
(all stops) loaded with bitchy Torontonians. Rode an ONR one too. I've seen similar globes in other CC&F products, such as Toronto PCC street cars, and CC&F/Brill trolleybuses. Edited 1 time(s).
