Rigaud Memories!
Author: ghCBNS

Back in the '90s......STCUM #111 would arrive in Rigaud Friday evening from Windsor Station. Lay over during the weekend then return as #112 on Monday morning.

The first time I noticed it was from the Autoroute 40 overpass and had to stop for pictures.

And the sounds coming from #1302 with this loadgetting her train up to track speed were always amazing!

Brings back memories for sure! The sound of those tired FP7's were great.

Did a recent post mention generators or somesuch in the gallery cars (I should have paid more attention; mind like a seive)? The light plumes are an unexpected element in the last photo.

Did Rigaud cut off subsidies ?
Does Hudson pay little subsidy to get 1 trip per day ?

Yes, is the simple answer.  With all the new housing being built in Rigaud, hopefully some day they may change their minds.

These gallery cars had on-board generators for A/C, heating, lighting etc..  This is why they would often be seen being propelled by non S/G equipped units..  The cars were eventually fully HEP'd  before being retired!

Rigaud and Hudson never paid subsidities for this service.

They may be retired, but they're still around.  Here's the view from the "Railfan Park" back on March 3rd.  All nine that were built are still there, along with a former GO cab car, and a number of modern bi-levels, at EXO's maintenance centre.

Why have they been holding onto these Gallery cars for so many years after use ?

Yes Geoff I know.  Never said they were disposed of, just retired.
