Operation Lifesaver from 2007
Author: cn6218

There is no connection between these two images except that they were taken within a few weeks of each other, and are both from the Halifax, NS area.

On October 28, 2007 a Renaissance Ocean was passing the "old" Bedford Quarry and about to drop down to Bedford Basin on its way to the Halifax station.  With the train coming right into the sun, there weren't too many options on how to shoot this one.  6411 was still wearing the Operation Lifesaver that it had received several years earlier (see a post from a few days ago for the side of the locomotive).

On November 17, 2007 there was still a little colour hanging on in the trees near sea level as 120 wrapped around Birch Cove, nearing Rockingham Yard.  In addition to nearly new SD70M-2 8805, IC SD40-2 6257 with the OL graphics is helping out.  6257 is a somewhat rare example of an IC locomotive with dynamic brakes.  It was formerly owned by BN, and was used by IC in some sort of pool service, therefore the need for DB.  It was wrecked about three years later with four other SD40-2s from the same group.

Thanks for posting.

With the head on shot you can see the Ocean crossing from one side to the other of the old double track right-of-way out to Windsor Jct.

That first shot is so vivid; really nice.
