Isn't brake application as important as throttle operation?  Give her credit.

I don't think so. Her Majesty was a mechanic and truck driver during WWII.

She is probably a better drive than the hubby !!! :):):)

I was near Balmoral in 1995, and the back gates swung open.  Approaching the Castle, was a green Jaguar sedan.  As it passed by, it was very obvious, that the driver was Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.  Only wish I had the camera ready, but certainly did not expect to see her.

Probably not. She was a mechanic and truck driver during WWII. I've seen video of her driving her Land Rover across the countryside like a railfan chasing a steam engine.

That experience underpins an important scene in the movie, "The Queen", in which Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth. The queen is driving her Land Rover briskly (yup, about like a railfan chase vehicle) out to an area where Prince Philip and the recently deceased Princess Diana's sons are hunting. She fords a stream, and the Rover stops cold, and she can't get it going again. She crawls underneath, muttering about her experience as a mechanic during the war, to find that the front prop shaft had disengaged. Not something many people would recognize without some solid mechanical experience, which she definitely had.

And as far as her being seated on the engineer's seatbox of that CN engine, she looks very interested and engaged. Not at all offended by the complexity of the backhead (she looks very interested in it all to me), nor the grit and mechanics of railroading. As history would show for decades to come, Her Majesty was a determined, tough lady, quite worthy of respect and admiration.

Thanks for posting a fine historical image.

I think she was about to say, "We are intrigued by the arrangement of the driver's controls on the right side of the engine."

Or "hand me the goggles, and let's move this thing!"

And we can thank her parents, particularly her Mum for calling what would become Royal Hudson' as lovely engines.  Thankfully King George VI allowed the moniker to be official.
