MLW Monday in Cape Breton
Author: cn6218

Here`s CBNS train 306 nearing the east end end of the River Denys siding on August 20, 1997.  We had chased the train from MacIntyre Lake that morning, and followed 306 as far as Gannon, where they met the westbound train out of Sydney.  There the two trailing units were put on the front of 305.  As I recall, Gannon was just out of sight around a curve, so we waited at Bras d'Or for the second shot here of 305, with four "Bigs" all primed for the climb up River Denys grade and eventually Marshy Hope on the mainland.

This was the last year of operation for the Centuries on the CBNS, and it's possible that there were only 6 working units at the time, neccessitating the power swap.

Great shots Geoff. Wow, has it really been that long? Thanks for the memories!

Thanks, was there in 94 with wife, railfan and tourism.  Cape Breton was a great visit.  Eastern Canada has never disappointed.

Interesting stuff, had been trying to figure out a trip back in the day, never happened.
Bought the decals for the Lion Rampant though.
