Montreal service update
Author: Ray_Murphy

In my post last week about the final day of service through the Mount Royal Tunnel, I mentioned that three AMT-RTM-EXO Mascouche line trains would now go the long way around the mountain each rush hour:

This afternoon, I caught two of the three going through Ville St-Pierre:

Picture #1: Train #1207 (at about 4:30);
Picture #2: Train #1209 (at about 5:00).

They're both diesel-powered (no ALP-45DPs so far).

Can anyone point me to a video in which those horns are sounding?

The ALP45DP's are fuel hogs, and the prime movers are high maintenance. The NJT ones are going through a slow, expensive, equivalent of an automobile "valve job" to stay environmentally compliant. Evidently EXO wants rid of them before they get to that point.

Never heard about the fuel hog bit, but did hear that they were high maintenance. Is NJT plannig to replace them? I know Siemens has been working on a dual-mode Charger intended to go after a few markets, but didn't know EXO was dissatisfied. Thanks for the into.

NJT is going to get 17 more of them even though they do not need more with electric power capability. They are to replace the various GP40 variants.

EXO will no longer have catenary on their system once REM goes to Duex Montagnes.
