Canadian Railroads > Make Work ProjectDate: 07/01/20 07:37 Make Work Project Author: cn6218 Happy Canada/Dominion Day everyone.
It may just be my imagination, but it seems like paving crews have been working overtime this spring and summer. We don't have an election planned in Nova Scotia, so maybe it's just to keep a part of the economy moving that isn't affected by the virus (how long can a virus last around hot asphalt?). To keep the paving crews supplied, CN has been moving plenty of liquid asphalt to General Liquids Canada, at the "new" Bedford Quarry. The tanks are fairly easy to spot because they don't have haz mat placards. The stuff is only liquid once it's been heated up with steam at the plant, where it's pumped into tanker trucks to go to individual paving plants. A number of those tanks were on the headpin of 120 on June 8th, as the train rolled along the Transfer Track towards Rockingham Yard. An election is one expense we don't need right now!.....but a month ago the province did announce the fast tracking of $230 million of shovel-ready project to get the economy rolling and that includes a lot of the 100-series highway paving. https://www.halifaxtoday.ca/local-news/province-to-create-2000-construction-jobs-by-green-lighting-200-projects-2389295 Date: 07/01/20 15:21 Re: Make Work Project Author: dxm332 Here in ontario, at both the municipal and provincial levels of government, a number of major projects were moved up to take advantage of reduced road traffic due to the cv19 lock downs. Also the federal transfer of the municipal share of the gas tax was paid earlier than normal due to cv 19.
