ID of BCR station.
Author: moonliter

Came across this photo of a BCR station from the Mattingly Collection at the Canada Science & Technology Museum here in Ottawa.  Unfortunately no other information on the photo.  Thank-you in advance for any information.

Prince George, BC. I have no idea what year, there is a different passenger station / freight shed combo that I am familiar with.

Thanks Doug.  I know of the station that you are referring to.  I took my first trip on the BCR in October of 1976 arriving late at Prince George around 02:00.  Saw the station and marvelled at its high-level platform, the second station in Canada to have one. (Montreal's Central Station being the first) Next I caught a ride to the CN station and waited for 06:20 arrival of CN No.10.  My first time in Prince George was under the cover of darkness hence no station photos.

"under cover of darkness" is the best way to experience  Prince George.

So long as there's no wind, that's a great platform canopy.

That helps to narrow the period in which this basic station existed at Prince George. I've seen a photo of it taken on May 4, 1970. So it was replaced sometime between then and October 1976.

EDITED TO ADD:  The truck trailer in the background wears the Dogwood emblem of the British Columbia Railway, a look that first appeared in 1972.

Amen!  And the same can be said for Terrace and Prince Rupert!

Prince George is the industrial hub of northern BC with three pulp mills and other forestry related businesses. Kamloops to the south also has many forestry related businesses.

The late Phil Gagliardi, MLA fror Kamloops and Minister of Highways for the WAC Bennett Provincial Government was noted for his colourful phrases was questioned about the smell and smoke created by the pulp mills, (clearly visible in the photo above). "Don't complain, that is the smell of prosperity", he announced.
