Bridges, From Two Perspectives
Author: cn6218

When scaning some slides from 2001 a few weeks ago, I found a couple I'd forgotten about.  These were taken from the rear window of the Park car (I don't seem to have noted exactly which one) of the Ocean, on a trip from Montreal to Halifax.  The pictures from the Park car were both taken on August 23, 2001.  The more conventional views are later digital images.

First up is the bridge across the North Branch of the Miramichi River, at mile 63.00 of the Newcastle Sub.  The bridge has 6 through truss spans and is 1256 feet long.  There is a virtually identical bridge over the South Branch of the river at mile 62.20.  On September 23, 2008 I caught CFMG SD40 6902 with a short train 402 crossing the same bridge.  In the background is the idled Miramichi Pulp and Paper plant (known as Repap).  It has since been mostly leveled.

The other example from that trip is the East Mines Trestle, at mile 14.50 of the Springhill Sub, over the Folly River.  It's much less impressive from track level, and I'm sure I had gone over it on the train many times without even realizing it.  The broadside perspective is from Decemeber 28, 2006 as an "extra" holiday train 614 races across the trestle at track speed of 70 mph.  That's Revelstoke Park on the end of the Ocean.

Great perspectives. Really like the night and day difference between the last two. And, love the CFMG job with five BCR boxes that travelled almost completely across the country.
