Canadian Railroads > Conventional 120 in Nova ScotiaDate: 08/14/20 07:02 Conventional 120 in Nova Scotia Author: cn6218 CN 120, the only regularly scheduled train into Halifax each day, has been running conventionally (no DPU) of late. With the warm weather and somewhat shorter trains, the advantages of distributed power are diminished, and the extra time involved with setting out and picking up cars in Moncton may be a disadvantage. Last Sunday was one of those days, with a late running 120 hitting the west switch of Amherst siding just after 10 in the morning. 40 minutes later, they were nearing the Saltsprings detector, which counted 504 axles, not huge, but still healthy for a mostly intermodal train. In the third image, 3169, 3174, 8867 and 8835 are rolling the train along the fast track in the farm country between Shubenacadie and Milford, a bit less than an hour away from Rockingham Yard.
Although eastbound trains have mostly been conventional, 121 has still had a DPU more often than not. But the DPU has often been on the rear of the train rather than somewhere in the middle. Today's (Friday) 120 arrived more or less on time at Rockingham (10:30), and an extra is planned to depart Moncton early this afternoon. GTD Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/14/20 07:17 by cn6218. |
