Canadian Railroads > Three Shots from CN's Sangudo SubDate: 10/11/20 09:30 Three Shots from CN's Sangudo Sub Author: tsokolan Earlier this month I spent some time on CN's Sangudo Sub, a branchline that runs north west from Edmonton to Whitecourt Alberta. The line features the largest wooden trestle in North America at 2,414 feet long. I shot the daily eastbound CN train L516 in a few locations:
1.L516 passes the preserved grain elevator at Mayerthorpe Alberta 2. The trestle at Rochfort Bridge Alberta, so long that a drone is needed to capture the entire structure 3. A lessr known but equally impressive structure is this bridge just outside of the town of Sangudo. L516 crosses the Pembina River on this bridge in the early afternoon of October 2 2020 -Trevor Date: 10/11/20 10:16 Re: Three Shots from CN's Sangudo Sub Author: refarkas Three first-class scenes.

(Uncle) Dave in MT Date: 10/11/20 10:57 Re: Three Shots from CN's Sangudo Sub Author: King_Coal Three very nice photos. Hard to believe those big largely wood trestles on a class one RR. Thanks for posting.

Well, it is on a branchline and not a mainline. Probably didn't generate enough revenue to justify replacing the wood trestle with a fill or a steel viaduct. After the fire the bridge was replaced using a spare from Kamloops. The sub was only out of service for a week before the replacement bridge was completed. I shot both Rochfort Bridge and the Mayerthorpe one. When Mayerthorpe burned (arson, a fire-fighter?), did they reduce the length of the replacement with long fills on the approaches? I don't remember where I think I heard this. Fred Date: 10/14/20 06:49 Re: Three Shots from CN's Sangudo Sub Author: tsokolan feclark Wrote:

The new bridge is a little difficult to access, but a shot can be made from the north isde of the tracks if the light is right -Trevor |
