Canadian Railroads > GTW Heritage Unit

The first CN heritage unit to be outshopped was picked up from CSX in Buffalo, NY last night and was on CN 422 (Port Robinson, ON - Toronto Mac. Yard) this morning.  It was repainted at AMP in Dansville, NY.

Photo 1 - Roster shot of CN 8952 as CN 422 reversed from Aldershot Yard light power back to Hamilton to make a lift.
Photo 2 - Hook and haul, 422 soon returned with their lift from Hamilton Yard heading back to Aldershot.

Looking very nice. I don't think I ever saw a freshly painted GTW locomotive; the blue is quite bright and should cheer up many fall photos.

Wound be neat to see her working with one of the few remaining blue GP9's CN has.

It passed a GTW GP38-2 in Hamilton.  It would have been a cool drone shot.

Anyone know what other heritage units they have planned?

I've seen pictures of 3115 posing as a BC Rail unit (R/W/B hockey stick scheme), and another GE (no number visible) in IC black dip.  Then there are the GP40(?) and slug set at Progress Rail in Tacoma in green and yellow '50s CN.

I find it a little funny that they would paint diesels in "heritage" schemes that are still extant, albeit looking a little rough these days.

I'm waiting to see what they come up with for the Halifax & South Western! :-)

CN's own heritage units.  There's a image floating around the internet that shows the following schemes:

I'm surprised Northern Alberta Railway (NAR) didn't make the cut.  That scheme would look great on a modern unit.

Nope.  That deal fell through.  Ontario Northland was not purchased by CN.

It went through Pointe Claire eastbound around 20 minutes ago. ie. 10:30 am Oct. 12.
Looks like same consist but not sure.

There's certainly a play on paint schemes here as the 'Newfoundland Railway' logo would never have appeared on the '60s CN scheme.....but it would be cool to see the logo applied to a unit although it would be exaggeration to see it on standard gauge equipment.

The Newfoundland Railway did have a couple of GE 47 Ton units acquired pre-Confederation.

CN assumed operation of the Newfoundland Railway when the Dominion of Newfoundland became a part of Canada in 1949. All other diesel units were acquired new by CN and carried the standard CN schemes of the era.

I just read that the artwork going around is from at least 2 years ago and has no connection to what CN has planned.  The list I posted earlier was based off that artwork.  So I guess we'll just have to wait and see what CN has planned!

As someone else said, it's interesting to see schemes painted as heritage that are still in service. If their painting something IC at Wood rest, there are SD70's right outside that run long distance locals every day. Similarly, a few GT GP38-2's are regular local power.

I hope the rumors of a DTI unit come true. That would look great. The GTW unit looks awesome, too

The million dollar question is will the Bessemer unit actually be used on the former Bessemer?

A standard gauge Terra Transport heritage unit at Clover Bar, just east of Edmonton. That's the money shot everyone is dying for...
