CN 7600/600 Mother Slug Set

I see there was a thread about these two units a couple of weeks back. 

Here's a bit of an update.  The 7600 has made it's way to the BNSF Tacoma Yard  and is awaiting a train to take it north to Canada.  The 600, for reasons not known to me, is still at nearby Progress Rail.

This is the first of at least 4 Mother/Slug sets that are to be rebuilt at Progress Rail's Tacoma facility.    The mother unit is a GP40-3  with the CN class of GY-430A and the slug  is class GY-00A.

All right. I am going to say it. Out loud.
That has got to be the most gawdawful version of the classic CNR paint scheme I have ever seen! The green is hideous!
End of rant.

Agree. The green is not even close. How could that shade have been selected.

       And some paint jobs are never given consideration of what they will look like with age abd dirt. May not get any better than this in time.

What is sad is that there is so many references to the proper shades and tons of people that woukld have gladly help free of charge to make sure this was done right, yet this is what came out , actually shameful to their past

Ok...since so many people are crying about this scheme, how about some photos of what the original looked like? I'm not all that up on CN, but I dont even recall a scheme anywhere near like this one.

Both the green and yellow of the original paint scheme faded. In the 1960's and 70's, there were many locomotives still in the old scheme but the painted had faded differently. On most, the green had faded to Army Truck green.

If this is what CN locomotives faded to, itsno wonder they changed to black and a shade  of orange/red.

There have been many GP40s (and GP35s) rebuilt as GP38 variants, but I can't recall any 38s being rebuilt as 40s (even if it does have a 12-cylinder ECO 710 under the hood).

Can anybody think of some examples?

I already weighed in on the colour in an earlier thread, but now that we have a sense of a series of heritage paint schemes coming out on CN, I have to ask why a mother/slug set? Is this going to be for road use? CN yards aren't exactly wide open p.r. dreams. I think of the CP units, and how many shots there are of them on the point. This CN choice seems like hiding your light under a bushel, as the saying goes.

Sidestepping the color issue... I've heard from another source that the 7600 headed to Lagrange IL for testing (emissions?). So, I'm guess that's why the slug is staying at Progress Rail (no emissions on a slug) and I'll further theorize that 7600 will return to Tacoma, to mated with the slug and sent on to CN.

As of Saturday afternoon, it was still in Tacoma.

NS GP40-2’s #3094-3102 were rebuilt from GP38 and GP38 cores.

Rochester and Southern GP40-3 #3807 was rebuilt from a GP38AC core.

Assorted KCS GP33ECO’s in the 2000 series were rebuilt from GP38-2 cores.
