CB & CNS - New Glasgow local and thru train
Author: robj

June, 1994 - Had great trip with wife to Nova Scotia, esp Cape Breton.  We mixed general tourism with the CB&CNS which if I remember had a pretty predictable WB.
Little vague on the details and sequence, I'd have to look back at slides which I scanned a while ago to get sequence.

Any add-on info or corrections welcome

1) WB at what I guess is back of Town Hall
2) crossing East River to Stellarton
3) local crossing to New Glasgow

Excellent! My old stomping ground!....Thanks!

Yes....your photo #4 is the old New Glasgow Station area. Here's CN #18 the Cabot e/b to Sydney back in '74.

Your photo #5 is the local coming off the Trenton Spur The mainline to Sydney is on the right. The green and yellow cars are Devco Coal Hoppers returning from the Nova Scotia Power Generating Station in Trenton. The spur also went to the rail car plant in Trenton (now closed) Here's a post I did here recently:

First-class set. My favorite is photo one with the Town Hall.

It's been nicely restored and was originally the Town's Post Office and Customs House.

Thanks, for including historical photo, the same bldg is in background, I follow your posts quite closely and looked up yours prior to posting for reference.

Nice to see the Terra Transport containers, too.

The sequence of images 5 and 6 is reversed (unless the train was backing down the spur).  What appears to be double track in most of the photos is really the main line and Trenton Spur running next to each other.  I don't think there was a crossover near where image 5 was taken (although ghCBNS probably remembers).  These days there is a switch there, but it's all just one track through town and the old station area, until you get nearer to the bridge over the East River, where the Trenton Spur is now a siding used for coal hoppers going to/from Trenton.  The two covered hoppers are likely cement going to a concrete plant on the Trenton Spur. I don't think it's active any longer either.

That cubic office "tower" in downtown New Glasgow is now gone too.  It was sold to a would be commercial landlord, who then let it become derelict, and the town was on the hook for demolishing it.

It's a nice snapshot of an era that I was too slow to capture myself.  Thanks.

The funny thing I remember is talking to a few local "kids".  They got a kick that were from Chicaaaago and talked about Haaaacky.

Really, there is a Chicago accent.
