December 21, didn't exactly look like the first day of winter in Nova Scotia this year.  Although there had been a significant snowfall a few days earlier, mild temperatures had mostly melted it, and were producing plenty of fog as 120 rounded a curve at Bedford Quarry, near Halifax.  The two AC GEs on the head end were par for the course, but getting one of CN's four SD70ACes as the DPU was a bit out of the ordinary.  8100 is on the causeway crossing Rocky Lake, near mile 14 of the Bedford Sub.

About 25 minutes behind 120 was 511, shown here entering the Dartmouth Sub with the loaded gypsum train, while fog hangs over the Bedford Sub in the background.  The occupants of the osprey nest on the abandoned pole line have gone south for the winter, unlike most of the other residents of Nova Scotia.
